Job Description

We currently have an opening for a NGS Bioinformatician within the Genomic Services department of Beckman Coulter.  Applicants must have proven strengths in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data including RNAseq and DNA variant analysis.  Experience in evaluating open source tools and developing/optimizing data analysis pipelines is essential.   Applicants should have a solid understanding of NGS Sequencing and be able to explain complex secondary analysis results to scientists lacking bioinformatics knowledge.  Successful candidates will thrive on challenging assignments, and subscribe to cultures of accountability & meritocracy. Candidates must possess excellent academic credentials and experience.  Industry experience is preferred.


Candidates with a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Genomics with at least 3 years of experience will be considered.  Additional requirements include:

  • Knowledgeable in NGS sequencing and NGS bioinformatics analysis (Variant Analysis, RNASeq-DE)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to develop & debug analysis pipelines written in PERL, R, PHP, SQL (experience with Pipeline Pilot a plus)
  • Must be comfortable working in Linux (experience with Open Source Grid Engine a plus)
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, while making necessary connections with experts in various computational analysis groups
  • Self-starter, highly motivated
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
