Job Description

The Next Generation Sequencing Lab Manager will oversee the day-to-day activities of a newly created high capacity, high throughput, next generation sequencing facility at the Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM). The IGM’s Genomic Analysis Facility will serve as the genomic data generating hub for the IGM, drawing in samples from a wide range of internal and external collaborative projects along with clinical samples across CU Medical Center and New York Presbyterian. The overarching goal of the IGM is to offer the benefits of scale, expertise and capacity to facilitate the integration of genomic analysis across CUMC and execute a defining set of internal, world-leading, research projects that integrate directly with clinical care. As a member of this exciting new effort, the Sequencing Lab Manager will serve as a technical expert to train and oversee the activities of a team of laboratory technicians involved in preparing sequencing libraries and generating data using the facility’s 4 HiSeq 2500 sequencers. The IGM is seeking out an experienced next generation sequencing and high throughput genotyping manager with expertise in Illumina sequencing workflows (including exome and genome library preparation), laboratory automation (Biomek, SciClone), and Illumina Infinium Bead Chip Genotyping (iScan, HiScan, TECAN). Responsibilities: •Manage the day-to-day lab activities, facilitate work flow, and delegate assignments to other lab personnel in sequencing lab •Directly supervise Research Technicians •Lead and ensure timely completion of projects •Independently perform complex sequencing related experimental procedures and data analyses •Perform follow-up validation assays including Sanger Sequencing, qRT-PCR, digital PCR •Train lab members on techniques that fall within the area of expertise •Explore and develop new standard protocols for the sequencing lab •Prepare the monthly laboratory billing statements

Requirements

Desired Education: Bachelor’s degree & 5 yrs lab experience or Master’s degree with 3 yrs experience Experience / Skills: •Experience with automation and robotics •Strong organizational, detail-orientation, and multi-tasking skills •Knowledge of Microsoft Office •Prior experience managing a next generation sequencing laboratory •Knowledge of Illumina sequencing systems, sequencing library preparation and exome capture (Agilent, Nimblegen) •Experience with GWAS genotyping and microarray platforms such as Illumina Infinium
