Job Description

This Research Technologist 3 conducts next-generation sequencing experiments, including sequencing library construction and generating sequencing data. This position carries out sequence data quality check and initial processing, and ensures sequencer in good working condition. This role provides guidance to researchers on DNA/RNA sequencing sample preparation for sequencing. This position may involve in new methodology development when needed.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Following established lab protocols, and/or independently designs, plans, conducts and troubleshoots experiments.
  • Evaluates protocols and data obtained from experiments.
  • Molecular Biology skills required or preferred:    
    • Next-generation sequencing of DNA and RNA samples
    • DNA/RNA isolation and purification
    • PCR, RT-PCR
    • Other molecular biology techniques
  • Finance
    • Tracks and summarizes lab supply expenses.
    • Orders and/or maintains inventory of reagents and lab supplies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience required; OR
  • Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 1 year lab/bench or other relevant experience.
About Our Organization

The NUSeq Core at Northwestern University is the only university-wide next-generation sequencing core facility that serves investigators at Northwestern University, affiliated institutions, and external academic and commercial institutions. It is newly established from the merging of the previous Genomics Core Facility and Next Generation Sequencing Core into one consolidated operation. This position is located on Northwestern's Chicago campus.
