Job Description

The University of Minnesota’s College of Pharmacy, Duluth campus (CoPD), Department of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPPS) invites nominations and applications for the position of Full (tenure), Associate (tenure) or Assistant Professor (tenure-track) for a 12 month (100%) appointment. This opening represents a dynamic opportunity for an individual to complement our Department’s commitment to outstanding research, innovative teaching and leadership in the optimization of drug therapy.

Candidates with scholarly interests in neuroscience are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to candidates with research expertise complementary to existing PPPS Department, College of Pharmacy, Twin Cities and University of Minnesota, Duluth Bio-Medical research programs. These research programs include: pain; neuromuscular disease; brain barriers biology; drug transport in the central nervous system; neurologic disease drug development; and neurodevelopment. Additionally candidates with research expertise in the areas of neuro-oncology; neuro-inflammation; neuro-immunology; muscular dystrophy; and myotonic dystrophy will be given preference.

Candidates are expected to develop/maintain an independent, vigorous, externally-funded research program and contribute to the department’s goal of building a thriving collaborative cadre of scientists. The candidate is expected to work with faculty on both the Duluth and Twin Cities campuses and is encouraged to develop national and international collaborations. 

Didactic teaching in the Doctor of Pharmacy and graduate programs relevant to the candidates’ area of disciplinary expertise and within the pharmaceutical sciences discipline will be required and assigned under the direction of the Department Head.

In addition to teaching, the candidate will serve on Department and College committees as well as engage in other service.

Requirements

Successful candidates will possess an earned doctorate (e.g. Pharm.D., Ph.D., MD., DVM or equivalent) and demonstrated scholarly expertise in neuroscience or neurological drug development.

Preference will be given to candidates with disciplinary expertise in pharmacology, pharmacokinetics or medicinal chemistry. Candidates with expertise in other pharmaceutical science disciplines are encouraged to apply. 

Post-doctoral research experience is required.

Candidates for Full or Associate Professor must exhibit a strong record of publications, a well-established research program and a current record of extramural funding commensurate with appropriate faculty level.

Candidates for Assistant Professor should demonstrate the promise for a successful externally-funded research program.

The candidate must have excellent teaching and communication skills.

About Our Organization

We are the only pharmacy school in Minnesota, offering Pharm.D., Ph.D. and M.S. programs on both the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses, which are about 150 miles apart. Faculty and staff are shared between campuses.
