GeneDx is rapidly growing CLIA-Certified diagnostic genetics laboratory. We provide cutting edge technologies for genetic molecular diagnostics and offer vital, new-platform products in the critical area of molecular diagnostics. We specialize in genetic testing for rare hereditary disorders, but also test for common disorders.  Our primary mission is to make clinical testing available to people with rare genetic conditions and their families.  Because of our tremendous growth, we are in search a full time Manager, R & D.

An exciting opportunity is available for an outstanding scientist capable of fulfilling the role of Manager of Research and Development at GeneDx. The manager will be responsible for the daily oversight of the R and D team as it relates to new assay development, improving current Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and molecular testing workflows and evaluating new technologies/novel assays and approaches. The position requires the candidate to engage in fundamental assay development and seamlessly transition their work into the clinical setting. The candidate must have a solid understanding of Next Generation Sequencing and other molecular testing approaches and lead the team with creative solutions and advances in the area of molecular diagnostics.

Requirements

Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Oversee the development of all new assays

  • Play an active role in experimental design and existing assay improvement

  • Work closely with the Clinical laboratory and Technology Transfer departments to successfully integrate newly developed products

  • Actively communicate the status of projects and contribute to the scientific strategy and implementation of novel methods

  • Interact with clinicians in the support and design of new tests

 

Key Skills:

1.        Strong organizational, communication, and managerial skills.   Experience managing projects, delivering results with a fast pace development cycle and communicating updates and status reports on a regular basis
2.        Experience building clinical molecular assays
3.        Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of molecular biology and related protocols (including DNA/RNA preparation,   DNA/RNA   quantification, hybridization, PCR , multiplex amplification and bead-based solutions)
4.        Demonstrated NGS experience.
5.        Good analytical and problem solving abilities
6.        Meets with assigned department staff to assist, teach, direct and supervise their activities related to the development of new and existing products
7.        Provides technical advice and assistance to department staff and other departments related to product development and improvement
8.        Contributes inventions, new designs or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of specific problems
9.        Keeps abreast of new scientific method and developments affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new design programs warranted by such developments

 

Education Requirements:

 

Advanced degree in related field preferred, 3+years of management experience
