Outstanding applicants are sought for the position of Manager of the Genomics Shared Resource of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory NCI designated Cancer Center. The successful applicant will be hired as a Research Investigator or Research Assistant Professor depending on qualifications. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a world-renowned research and educational institution with innovative research programs in cancer, neuroscience, plant biology, and genomics and quantitative biology. The Genomics Shared Resource at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory currently has several state-of-the-art next generation sequencing platforms including Illumina, Pacific Biosciences, and Oxford Nanopore, supported by an experienced technical staff and a quantitative biology group for development of novel algorithms for data analysis, sequence comparison and pipeline management.

 to experimental design, methods analysis, interpretation of results, and to educate new users in applications of the next generation sequencing technology.

 

Job Description

Description of the Position:

The Manager will oversee the management of basic and innovative cancer-related research projects within the shared resource. A strong background in molecular and/or cancer biology is required to consult on issues relating to experimental design, methods analysis, interpretation of results, and to educate new users in applications of the next generation sequencing technology.

The Manager will troubleshoot and monitor next generation sequencing projects from initiation though completion and will work with the sequencing staff and bioinformatics staff to ensure that projects are completed on time. The Manager will implement changes in timelines and deliverables as needed to meet the scientific goals of the project and to ensure customer satisfaction with the sequencing services.

Requirements

Requirements:

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in molecular biology or a related biological field with an emphasis in next-generation sequencing or an equivalent combination of education and expertise in this technology. Experience in collaborative research projects, bioinformatics and in conducting or coordinating high-throughput biology projects would be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a supervisory and management role, excellent communication (oral and written) and organizational skills, the ability to work in a multi-tasking environment, and the ability to cooperate and communicate effectively with team members and other research groups, such as biologists, geneticists, data analysts, computer scientists and laboratory biologists.

Experience in operating next-generation sequencing platforms is highly desirable but not required. Working knowledge of PC and UNIX platforms, and experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems and database programs to track samples and communicate results is essential.
