Job Description

We are seeking a Laboratory Director to lead and be part of establishing our CLIA Lab operations at our Salt Lake City facility. This is a great opportunity for a motivated leader looking to apply the experience of best practices, influence lab development, and apply their talent real-time for results. Leading the NAViCAN Genomics' laboratory team using state of the art technology, the Lab Director will ensure regulatory compliance, optimal service delivery, meeting financial objectives, and development of staff.  

The successful candidate must be a high energy, charismatic leader with an entrepreneurial spirit, who is talented, strategically oriented, and highly ethical with a strong leadership presence.  The Laboratory Director will lead by example to ensure a good and compliant working environment, while at the same time maintaining accountability for delivering commitments through quick decision making and a sense of urgency while pursuing operational excellence.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated successful experience in directing and managing a laboratory environment, its people, and resources.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Create a laboratory from facilities to organization.  Responsible for the overall set up, operation and administration of the clinical laboratory and related programs according to applicable standards and regulations
  • Establish lab processes. Write SOPs and contribute to final written SOPs in the laboratory. Follows GLP guidelines for validation of testing
  • Work with senior leadership to establish and define strategic goals, objectives, and performance metrics.  Ensure achievement of targets and implement plans to improve performance as needed
  • Develop capital and operational budgets and be accountable to successfully manage established financial metrics
  • Oversee all laboratory team members through hiring, training, performance management, and recognition to ensure they are meeting the standards and certifications needed for their roles
  • Interact with cross functional team members and senior leadership to facilitate the accomplishment of goals and objectives
  • Lead development of a laboratory quality system approach to laboratory testing which provides accurate and reliable patient test results
  • Utilize techniques such as lean six sigma and process optimization to ensure efficiency and cost reduction in clinical lab operations
  • Provide clinical and technical expertise in support of new initiatives
  • Interact with patients on technical issues; represent NAViCAN in a professional manner; develop industry presence
  • Monitor and improve customer satisfaction utilizing available engagement metrics and national benchmarks.  Develop and implement actions plans to achieve desired outcomes
  • Ensure accurate record keeping with regards to patient samples, data, and reports, as well as data privacy standards
  • Review QA reports for timely and appropriate actions
  • Ensure physical and environmental conditions of the laboratory are at optimal standards to the testing performed
  • Ensure the environment for the employees is safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards and meets safety requirements
  • Prepare and present at conferences, client meetings, and other internal meetings as appropriate

 

Requirements

EQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ph.D. preferred.  MS Degree in Medical field, Health Care Administration, Business or Science required
  • Evidence of fulfillment of CLIA requirements as a Director of a Laboratory of Moderate Complexity preferred
  • LS/MT Certification
  • 15 years of relevant work experience
  • 5-8 years minimum of successful laboratory management experience
  • Experience in developing, leading, and implementing organizational initiatives
  • Required experience:  NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) and working with laboratory related agencies
  • Preferred experience: mass spectrometry, immunohisto chemistry, and mass array
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, and technical learning skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates NAViCAN’s values by acting with integrity, respect and trust
  • 25% travel required
