Joint Genome Institute Director - 82226
The mission of the U.S. Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute (DOE JGI) is to serve the diverse scientific community as a national user facility, enabling the application of large-scale genomics and analysis of plants, microbes, and communities of microbes to address the DOE mission goals in bioenergy and the environment. Genomics is evolving at a rate beyond Moore’s law. As the director, you will define the vision that keeps the JGI scientifically innovative and relevant in genomics for years to come.
The JGI Director works within the Biosciences Area at Berkeley Lab and will manage a budget of over $70 million (20% of which is currently allocated to JGI partners). In this critical and highly visible role, you will lead 300 staff and affiliates. You will have full responsibility for all areas of management within the User Facility, including funding, workforce planning, human resource management, environmental health and safety, property and facilities management. You will work with Laboratory Senior Management to ensure the smooth operation and long-term prospects of the User Facility and Laboratory as a whole.
