The Bioinformatics Group Leader will be responsible for managing and leading a group that develops algorithms and performs data mining for molecular biology experiments.   • Leads group efforts relevant to statistical and bioinformatic analyses of experimental data produced by next generation sequencing
  • Leads development and implementation of new approaches for processing and analyzing next generation sequencing data
  • Closely collaborates with the clinical laboratory to develop solution for clinically relevant questions
  • Inspires a team of talented bioinformaticians to  try new approaches to find innovative solutions
  • Provides analysis information to management to aid in decision making on the development of new laboratory developed tests
  • Manages staff including recruiting, hiring, motivating, performance management, training and development
  • Master's degree required, PhD preferred in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
  • Comprehensive experience with all state-of-the art next generation sequencing tools such as but not limited to: GATK, Picard, BWA, MuTect, VarScan
  • Experience with sequence variant identification, mutation detection, copy number analysis and the detection of in/dels and fusions.
  • Strong mathematical background knowledge in the fields of machine learning, pattern recognition, signal processing.
  • Experience with large datasets, parallel and cloud computing
  • Must be able to provide evidence of relevant research expertise in the form of presentations, software, technical publications, and/or knowledge of applications
  • Strong knowledge of human genetics
  • Experience with Laboratory Developed Tests (LDT) desirable
  • Ability to work in a collaborative research environment
