Genomics Research Scientist

BioReference Lab

Elmwood Park, NJ





A full-time Research Scientist position is available within the Genomics Research and Development Group at Bioreference, a full service diagnostic laboratory that strives to provide cutting edge genomics tests.  As part of the Genomics R&D team the candidate will improve current Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows as well as bring on new technologies and develop novel assays and approaches. The position requires the candidate to engage in fundamental assay development and seamlessly transition their work into the clinical setting. The candidate should be efficient at acquiring new technical skills and driven to see projects through.  The work is performed onsite at Elmwood, NJ and not remote.


Key Responsibilities:


  1. Assist in a number of projects

  2. Play an active role in experimental design

  3. Work closely with the clinical production laboratory to successfully integrate newly developed products

  4. Communicate the status of projects



Key Experiences and Skills:


  1. Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of molecular biology and related protocols (including DNA/RNA preparation, DNA/RNA quantification, hybridization, PCR, multiplex amplification and bead-based solutions)

  2. Demonstrated NGS experience

  3. Rapidly acquire expertise in new techniques

  4. Flexible and determined mindset

  5. Ability to multitask

  6. Good time management skills

  7. Works well across differing group dynamics

  8. Ability to work independently

  9. Good analytical and problem solving abilities

  10. Strong organizational and communication skills


    Master’s or PhD degree in Biology, Biochemistry or relatable life science and/or combination of education and experience.
