Genomics Facility Manager

Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) is a leading independent biomedical research facility and we are currently seeking to hire a Genomics Facility Manager. VARI is dedicated to determining the epigenetic, genetic, molecular and cellular origins of cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases, and translating those findings into effective therapies. The Institute is home to more than 330 scientists and support staff that work in on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe.

This is a new core and we are seeking an individual who is motivated and ready to establish a best in class core for our research teams.

As our Genomics Facility Manager, your main responsibility will be to provide high-throughput sequencing services (HTS) to VARI scientists and their collaborators for research and clinical applications.

You will also be VARI’s in-house expert in sequencing technology and operate on the leading edge of state-of-the-art technology and emerging applications in HTS.

As our in-house expert you will:

  • Manage and trouble-shoot library sample preparation from difficult analytes, sample (quality control) QC-ing, sample clustering on the cBot and operation of Illumina’s Next Generation Sequencing machines.
  • Optimize protocols, monitor project progress, and oversee day-to-day operations of the facility.
  • Provide supervision and/or special training to technical personnel in HTS related research projects.
  • Stay up to date on HTS literature and recommend enhancements or propose new procedures to meet the needs of VARI.

Requirements

What qualifies you as an expert?

We would expect you to possess a Ph.D. degree focused on biology, biochemistry, or a healthcare related field. Most important is you will need to have 5 – 10 years of genomics management experience in addition to the following expertise:

  • A strong understanding of all areas of Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Expertise in DNA methylation analysis platforms, (bisulfite sequencing, Infinium DNA methylation arrays, etc…)
  • Bioinformatics experience with epigenomics bioinformatics and nextgen sequencing experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience with RNA-seq, DNA-seq, ChIP-seq, bisulfite-sequencing, and NOMEe-seq
