Job Description

The Genetic Counselor's role is to provide information, consultation, and support to customers, healthcare providers and business partners regarding the performance specifications of genetic tests, and interpretation of results. He/ she will establish effective relationships with physicians and customers, and will help achieve organizational goals and providing genetic test consultations.

 

 Responsibilities

  • Analyze genetic information and provide counseling in areas of clinical genetics in a range of applications including but not limited to hereditary cancer risk, diabetes risk, and carrier screening
  • Discuss testing options and the associated risks, benefits and limitations with healthcare providers or patients to assist them in making informed decisions
  • Interpret laboratory results and communicate findings to patients or healthcare professionals
  • Design and conduct genetics education programs for physicians, other health professions or the general community; Prepare or provide genetics-related educational materials
  • Engage in research activities related to the field of medical genetics or genetic counseling
  • Evaluate or make recommendations for standards of care or clinical operations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, ethics, legislation, or policies
  • Keep up to date with current literature, and participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in genetics
  • Deliver fundamental education and training to team members
  • Provide genetics information and professional support to healthcare professionals and business development team

Requirements

Requirements

  • Master Degree or above in Genetic Counseling
  • At least 2 years genetic counseling experience in various genetic fields, knowledge in hereditary cancer risk, diabetes risk, and carrier screening is an advantage 
  • Ability to provide genetic, medical, and technical information in a comprehensive and understandable manner
  • Independent, highly organized and proactive
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface internally and externally
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English. Proficiency in Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese a plus
