The Inova Translational Medicine Institute (ITMI) is seeking a Pediatric Genetic Counselor to provide clinical genetic counseling services for patients with known or suspected genetic disorders. The counselor would work with clinical geneticists in the Inova Health System, a large team of genetic counselors providing service system-wide, as well as interact with ITMI research staff. We are looking for someone who can work independently to manage genetic education, risk assessment, counseling, coordination of genetic testing and support to pediatric patients at risk for inherited syndromes. They will communicate between the patient, parents and their multi-disciplinary care team in diagnosis and evaluations of such conditions. Experience in clinical pediatric genetic counseling is preferred; however, mentoring by experienced medical geneticists can be provided for new graduates. All applicants must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. There is also the opportunity to participate in teaching and mentoring genetic counseling students from local Master’s degree training programs.
