Job Description

Lucigen seeks a customer-focused and experienced field application scientist to serve as the primary technical liaison and field contact between Lucigen and customers in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and CRO end markets. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Provide expert understanding and strong technical competency to identify customer challenges and map them to Lucigen’s products and services
  • Onboard new users from product evaluation onward throughout the sales cycle
  • Provide high-level technical support to the customer regarding design requirements and guidance or input on experiments related to use of Lucigen’s products
  • Assist customers with product demonstrations, if needed, in support of pre-sales activity including seminar and conference talks, poster sessions, and consultative discussions with key customers
  • Provide application support for pre- and post-sales activities for Lucigen’s product portfolio
  • Identify, nurture, and manage collaborations, including KOL relationships, and capture new leads and opportunities for revenue growth
  • Provide product training to field sales team, including distribution network, as new products are launched
  • Support international sales team in technical discussions, presentations, and meetings with customers
  • Liaison between customer, sales team, product management, and other internal teams (including R&D and Production) to serve as “voice of customer,” providing feedback on potential new opportunities, products ideas, or customer requirements for new applications or products
  • Provide weekly reports on key activities and opportunities
  • Effectively articulate data results to the customer
  • Coordinate with Product Management to identify, communicate, and incorporate product value proposition and deliver competitive solutions that are differentiated through value as perceived by our customers
  • Present a professional image at all times to customers, clients and other vendors; comfortable at customer sites
  • Extensive domestic travel (30-50% time) to work in the field with customers, attend meetings with key customers, provide training, and participate in trade shows
  • Provide and continuously update customer contact with relevant information; track, record and document relevant information from all technical customer inquiries
  • Collaborate with the in-house technical services team and other field application scientists in the post-sales support of customers and their applications
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the processes and materials used by the global sales team in support of our customers and distribution network
  • Keep informed of competitive market information at industry seminars, trade shows, and conferences; provide reports on trends to Sales and Marketing
Requirements

This position requires a M.S. or Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, protein engineering, or a related field. Additional requirements include:

  • 3+ years of laboratory or bench experience working with cloning, drug discovery, gene expression, and gene editing applications
  • Experience with reagent/consumable sales, preferably in pharma and biotech segments; field applications experience preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge of cutting edge technologies such as CRISPR and NGS applications
  • Advanced knowledge of and practical experience in biotechnology
  • Ability to assess market and develop a sales roadmap to grow sales in pharma/biotech segment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Capacity to effectively provide consultation and explain complex concepts or workflows, and proven ability and willingness to present in front of large groups
  • Passion to stay current with new technologies and applications in the life science market
  • Highly committed, competitive, and goal-driven professional with industry workflow experience
  • High attention to detail, strategic, astute, and forward-thinking
  • High self-motivation and demonstrated ability to work in collaborative team environment
  • Experience with customer support and use of CRM system a plus
