Job Description


Synthego is looking for a Field Application Scientist to join our team and help create the world’s first fully automated cloud-enabled molecular biology lab.

The Field Application Scientist is a position critical to supporting both Synthego’s scientific and commercial organizations and our customer’s technical needs in the constantly evolving domain of genome engineering. The Field Application Scientist will maintain close interactions with the cell engineering, support, and sales teams to ensure that Synthego’s customers experience excellent technical success with our range of CRISPR genome engineering products and world-class customer service.


Location: Remote - Northeast (Boston, MA)




  • Own the technical and scientific success of our customer experience with Synthego’s CRISPR genome engineering products
  • Provide excellent scientific and customer support throughout the entire CRISPR experimental outline: pre-experiment, in experiment and post-experiment
  • Directly support the sales team on site and remotely with customers by providing both pre-experiment technical expertise and delivering technical presentations to customers
  • Gather and document customer’s technical challenges to consolidate as market feedback for the science, product and marketing teams
  • Develop and nurture scientific relationships with key opinion leaders within the CRISPR research community
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of relevant CRISPR publications, keep up to date on the latest reports and research trends from the literature and attend relevant conferences
  • Help to develop technical/scientific content for presentations and posters for conferences and other scientific communication forums




  • PhD in a relevant biological field (e.g., Molecular/Cell Biology, Microbiology, Synthetic Biology)
  • 5+ years laboratory experience in the Life Sciences/Biotechnology with an emphasis on genome engineering, culture of cell lines and primary cells and transfection techniques. Experience with and knowledge of CRISPR is required
  • 0-2 years of Industry experience in the Life Sciences/Biotechnology sector with preference for a customer facing position
  • Excellent communication, collaborative and networking skills – both towards other scientists/customers and internal science, support and sales teams
  • Ability to formulate clear, technically proficient written and oral presentations for customer facing and inter-team communications
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to work in a fast paced, startup culture and team environment
  • Ability to travel at least 25%+ time and cover the Northeast United States biotechnology
