The Expression and Sequence Analysis Field Application Scientist is an exciting position that allows you, as a scientist, to interact with a wide range of researchers across different scientific disciplines to promote software applications and services that provide superior–omics data analysis and biological interpretation.

As a member of the Applied Advanced Genomics group, the Field Application Scientist is responsible for delivering scientific software demonstrations for groups of various sizes, conduct software product trainings, and other activities to help potential customers understand the value of QIAGEN’ S software applications and services. These applications and services include, but are not limited to, Ingenuity, CLCbio, and Biobase products. The initial focus will be on expression and pathway analysis using CLC Genomics Workbench and IPA. The scope will expand to include NGS variant analysis and other types of data analyses. The scientist will work strategically with Sales, Marketing, Customer Support and R&D teams to work across pharmaceutical, biotech, government, hospital/medical, and academic customers and perspective customers. This is a field-based role and candidates should be prepared to experience periods up to 60% travel, average yearly levels will be less.

Role Responsibilities:

- Engage scientific discussions with customers and cultivate relationships
- Leverage deep scientific knowledge to identify customer challenges and map them to Advanced  
  Genomics software products and services
- Deliver scientific workshops on defined case studies to showcase the value and effectiveness of
  software applications within the context of the prospect or customer’s research
- Provide scientific presentations and compelling pre-sales product demonstration for potential
  customers within the context of the customer’s research field and application
- Train and support new customers including delivering product-training seminars on the Advanced
  Genomics software products and applications
- Work closely with customers to understand their product requirements, and communicate these
  requirements to the Marketing and engineering teams for inclusion in future product development
  activities
- Become a power user of Qiagen’s portfolio of software applications and effectively present these
  products at scientific conferences, seminars, workshops, webinars, and poster presentations
- Upgrade and develop new demo examples and case studies to highlight product features and address
  specific biological questions
- Support Marketing activities at targeted events

Requirements

PhD or equivalent experience in molecular biology or genetics-related fields of study stressing biological interpretation of computer data analysis, with strong experience in gene expression analysis and biological interpretation. Experience with RNAseq data analysis and interpretation is highly desired.

• Demonstrated excellent written, presentation, and verbal communications skills including strong
   public speaking experience
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Aptitude for understanding and communicating scientific concepts, applications and methods
• Demonstrated exceptional analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to travel between 30-60% of the time
• Understanding of and interest in the challenges of information discovery in the life sciences domain
• Ability to multitask a variety of assignments and proven ability to meet strict deadlines
• Ability to be flexible and creative, and work smart in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
• Fast, self-starter with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks in a result-oriented, commercial
   environment
