Would you like to join the leader in Next Gen DNA sequencing and work on exciting R&D projects around their proprietary SBS chemistry?

As part of an exciting expansion plan for our Consumables Development team, Illumina is looking for an experienced Synthetic Chemist that has direct exposure to working under ISO 9001 and 13485. At its core this role will involve working on synthetic projects that revolve around the florescent dye and other key chemistries used in Illumina’s sequencing-by-synthesis (SBS) technology.  However the post holder would also be expected to be directly involved in projects that involving preparing the group for compliance with new Quality Systems.  This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Illumina’s next stage of development.


To work as part of the synthetic chemistry team, which supports Illumina’s consumables product development and reagent manufacturing activities.


This role would suit a post doctoral chemist who is currently working in an industrial setting and not only has exposure to quality systems, but understands their importance and how to design laboratory process to satisfy them.





Job duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Evaluating new synthetic chemistry procedures and developing new chemistry manufacturing processes.
  • Improving existing synthetic chemistry procedures
  • Process scale-up and transfer from R&D to reagent manufacturing
  • Providing support for internal and external manufacturing operations
  • Developing analytical procedures for new products and processes
  • Experiment planning, execution, troubleshooting, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Prepare reports, present results and communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Available to travel to the US for extended periods.


Education and experience:

  • Ph.D with prove industrial experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Knowledge of modern chromatography methods an advantage.
  • Experience of working with quality systems (ISO 9001 / ISO 13485).
  • Strong practical chemistry skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to produce results to a deadline.
  • Highly collaborative and able to work across functions and locations.
