Director/Assistant Director of R &D, Assay Development

An exciting opportunity is available for an outstanding scientist capable of fulfilling the role of Director/Assistant Director of Research and Development at GeneDx.  As the lead of the R&D team the candidate will be responsible for new assay development, improving current Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and molecular testing workflows and evaluating new technologies/novel assays and approaches. The position requires the candidate to engage in fundamental assay development and seamlessly transition their work into the clinical setting. The candidate must have a solid understanding of Next Generation Sequencing approaches and lead the team with creative solutions and advances in the area of molecular testing.

 

 

 GeneDx is rapidly growing CLIA-Certified diagnostic genetics laboratory. We provide cutting edge technologies for genetic molecular diagnostics and offer vital, new-platform products in the critical area of molecular diagnostics. We specialize in genetic testing for rare hereditary disorders, but also test for common disorders.  Our primary mission is to make clinical testing available to people with rare genetic conditions and their families. 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Oversee the development of all new assays

  2. Play an active role in experimental design and existing assay improvement

  3. Work closely with the Director of technology transfer and validation to successfully integrate newly developed products

  4. Actively communicate the status of projects and contribute to the scientific strategy and implementation of novel methods

  5. Collaborate with the Bio-informatics team on new algorithm development

     

     

    Key Experiences and Skills:

     

  1. Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of molecular biology and related protocols (including DNA/RNA preparation, DNA/RNA quantification, hybridization, PCR, multiplex amplification and bead-based solutions)

  2. Demonstrated NGS experience

  3. Rapidly acquire expertise in new techniques

  4. Works well across differing groups

  5. Good analytical and problem solving abilities

  6. Strong organizational, communication, and managerial skills

  7. Meets with assigned department staff to assist, teach, direct and supervise their activities related to the development of new and existing products

  8. Provides technical advice and assistance to department staff and other departments related to product development and improvement

  9. Contributes inventions, new designs or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of specific problems

  10. Keeps abreast of new scientific method and developments affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new design programs warranted by such developments

Requirements

Education:

Advanced degree in related field preferred, 3+ years of management experience
