Job Description

Spiral Genetics (www.spiralgenetics.com) is a funded, Seattle-based start-up dubbed “The Company to Watch” by BioWatch News that specializes in high performance bioinformatics solutions focused on large-scale DNA data analysis for medical, pharmaceutical, and agricultural research. Additionally, we just entered the Cancer Genomics space with great results through Onco, our latest technology. We are looking for the next great addition to our team of movers and shakers; we are looking for a Director of Sales.

Your mission as the Director of Sales is to create and maintain relationships both internally and externally; to understand the bioinformatics needs of pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations, agrigenomic companies, and other large laboratories undertaking next-generation sequencing and ultimately, help to take their research to the next level.

Additionally, you will have a passion to: ‬
• ‪Identify and develop new high-potential global sales opportunities; ‬‬‬
• ‪Partner with our internal experts to assist customers in solving their scientific and engineering challenges; ‬‬‬
• ‪Develop and review go-to-market initiatives, and account expansion projects with the Management Team;‬‬‬
• ‪Develop compelling business cases and clear value propositions for our customers;‬‬‬
• Take an active role in bringing customer feedback and requests back to Spiral for continued R&D.

Source leads and close deals:
• Identify organizations that can benefit from our products including our novel algorithms and unique bioinformatics platform
• Present our value proposition over the telephone, on a web conference, or in person meetings
• Develop sales and marketing materials
• Work closely with other members of the sales force and development team to successfully facilitate technical due diligence
• Negotiate agreements and close deals
• Continue to support customers to get the most from our products
• Liaise with the rest of the business team and the development team to identify further improvements to be made to the different products.

Requirements

An ideal candidate would have: ‬
• ‪A minimum of 5 years’ experience in sales and client relationship-building in biotechnology; ideally in the Illumina space;‬‬‬
• ‪A demonstrated track record in closing new business;‬‬‬
• ‪A strong network in enterprise pharma and biotechnology (relationships with X-10 clients a plus);‬‬‬
• ‪Highly effective writing, presentation, and closing skills both at the executive level and with other bioinformatics experts.‬‬
• A genuine curiosity and willingness to push the boundaries of norm (not simply being fast).‬ ‬

Previous Experience and Skills
• Former sales experience in the next generation sequencing industry is preferred. Candidates with sales experience at Illumina strongly preferred.
• Selling products and/or services to medium and large organizations around bioinformatics or genetic sequencing
• Successful at selling new products and services, not legacy products
• Presenting a unique value proposition in various situations
• Building relationships, negotiating agreements and closing deals of significant value
• Experienced and comfortable with software sales with an annual deal size of
$1M+
• Working effectively within diverse teams in a continually changing environment
• It is also highly desirable that you have existing networks within the next-generation sequencing space.

In our space, most focus on fast (doing the same thing fast…is that still the definition of insanity?). At Spiral, we are also fast but this is not our primary focus. Our focus is on seeing the crucial structural variations that allow researchers to do their best work accurately.

Tech + Science + Team = Awesome
As a company, we value technological and scientific excellence while consistently pushing the envelope. Because of this view, we also have some R&D up our sleeve that is proving to be the best in its class.

Even so, we know that it takes more than a set of winning products to create a winning company. We also value our team of incredibly diverse individuals, all of whom encompass a wide range of backgrounds and interests. Although we work hard to solve difficult problems, we enjoy a relaxed and collegial atmosphere, which includes frequent company outings ranging from white water rafting to pub quiz nights. Yes, this means we also value fun!
