Job Summary

Complete Genomics, Inc. is looking for a highly motivated individual to lead oncology assay development efforts in support of personalized patient care using next generation sequencing platforms. The incumbent will be responsible for developing, qualifying/validating, and implementing biomarkers and assays through exploration of innovative, cutting-edge technologies in focused diseases (prostate, lung, breast, etc.). This individual will lead team, based in Mountain View, United States and Shenzhen, China, to effectively develop and execute on innovative projects, including the project proposing, budget control, recruiting team members and managing the project progression, promote collaborative efforts to push precision translational sciences forward. This successful individual is expected to be, or develop into, externally recognized expert in precision diagnostics and medicine.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive scientific and technical innovation by developing and executing on oncology assays
  • Provide translational research service/product to advance oncology biomarker assessment and drug resistance mechanism in support of molecular diagnosis and personalized patient care
  • Develop and effectively manage a translational research laboratory, including lab maintenance, writing SOPs, test procedures, protocols, reports, summarizing/presenting data, and participating in internal/external collaboration.
  • Directly responsible for cFDA/FDA/CE-IVD regulation, including lead and direct product definition, designing and perform feasibility analysis, and conduct clinical trial.
  • Participate and thrive in a highly interactive, fast-paced and dynamic team environment
  • Build up pre-clinical or clinical collaboration with local hospitals and key opinion leaders (KOLs).
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD/PhD degree in life sciences with 5+ years of work experience in basic or translational research either in an academic or industry laboratory setting
  • Extensive knowledge on NGS sequencing technology and process to understand the process and method to design and discover biomarkers with NGS for cancer research
  • Solid hands-on experience and expertise in laboratory techniques, including molecular and cellular biology, such as gene cloning, qRT-PCR, digital PCR, Fluidigm, cell culture, ELISA, western, blood-based assays, etc
  • Ability to plan, execute, analyze and troubleshoot experiments independently, and to analyze large biomarker datasets using statistical tools
  • Experience in oncology, genomic technologies, and clinical drug development is beneficial, including basic or advanced understanding of oncology biomarkers and drug resistance. Experience and expertise in next-generation sequencing and cancer genomics is desired
  • Ability to lead, influence and motivate others, and to distill complex issues and clearly articulate solutions
  • Enthusiastic, creative, dedicated. Outstanding organizational, time management, and people interaction skills. The ability to work independently as well as with a team, demonstrate initiative, strong attention to details, able to multi-task, with effective verbal and written communication skills are a must


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with in vitro diagnostics; other experience in the medical device industry will be evaluated
  • Have experience preparing or supporting international registrations (cFDA, FDA, CE) helpful.
  • Published cancer related papers in journals.


Other Requirements

  • Fluent communication skills in English and Mandarin required.
  • Travel at 50%+ between China and U.S.
