Job Description

Lucigen seeks a savvy and experienced leader of marketing to build and direct a world-class brand and product line. The Director of Marketing provides the overall leadership and strategic direction of the marketing team, including product management, project management, technical services and marketing communications. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Drive the overall marketing and product development strategy (in combination with upper management) for the company.
  • Develop yearly revenue forecasting in collaboration with the Sales department.
  • Manage department budget spend to plan.
  • Guide product management, project management, marketing communications, and technical services personnel in a manner consistent with company values while achieving growth of revenue and profit and compliance with ISO 13485 standards.
  • Work with the R&D group to translate customer needs into product development projects.
  • Ensure the company produces new products and services that relate to customer needs and requirements for simplification and innovation and that align with company purpose and corporate goals in the area of genomic research, including NGS, cloning and protein expression.
  • Lead and develop staff to positively interact with customers at tradeshows and other external events while promoting sales, capturing customer requirements, and developing relationships with KOL’s.
  • In coordination with Sales, promote & help support OEM opportunities, including bulk reagents and private labeled manufacturing, as needed.
  • Evaluate other company products for inclusion in the Lucigen portfolio as OEM products or distribution opportunities, in coordination with Sales.
  • Perform competitive market research to keep Lucigen products viable and priced appropriately.
  • Support global sales and distributor networks by supplying tools, trainings, and a continual chain of communication to drive the marketing message through our channels.
  • Interact with production and shipping to ensure these departments are ready for future promotional efforts that may affect inventory.
  • Communicate with vendors as necessary to develop products and maintain inventory.
  • Evaluate product success or failure during and after launch, analyze reasons and implement changes for improvement where necessary.
Requirements

This position requires an M.S. degree in biology, microbiology, or related field and a minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in appropriate positions in industry or the equivalent. Additional requirements include:

  • Strong communications and PC skills (proficiency in MS Office products and spreadsheet experience) required.
  • Must possess biology- or genetics-related business knowledge, experience working within a customer-facing environment, and experience managing a team to deliver on its goals.
  • Must be a strong team player able to cross-functionally work across the organization to identify customer needs in order to develop and manufacture high quality products that meet commercial objectives.
  • Strong commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and with other team members in a cooperative and consultative manner.
  • Well organized, able to multi-task as needed, and flexible in accommodating customer needs.
  • Professional training courses in project and product management or an M.B.A. a plus.
