Job Title: Director, High Performance Computing

Reports To: Deputy Director, BGI Research

Department: Research

Job Summary
Complete Genomics is looking for an exceptional expert and leader for a Director of High Performance Computing (HPC) position. This individual will lead a HPC team in China responsible for the design and development of the HPC architecture. In addition, the team is responsible for implementation and maintenance of the HPC system, in which large scale biological data can be effectively analyzed. The ideal candidate should possess an advanced understanding of high performance computing. In addition, the individual should have superior leadership and cross-functional communication skills, and experience managing complex projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Recruit, retain, and develop the High Performance Computing (HPC) team.
Lead the team to set up a HPC framework and architecture (including algorithm, software and hardware) to satisfy the needs of large biological data analysis in the future.
Lead the team to work out high performance computing solutions for:
De novo assembly, base calling, variation calling, population analysis, and system biology analysis. The efficiency of the developed algorithms, software, and tools should be five times higher than existing software.
Lead the team to develop new algorithms, software, and tools for other aspects of analyzing biological data.
Collaborate with other teams and departments to develop HPC solutions for specific products
Explore future directions of HPC to further improve the efficiency of biological data analysis.
Perform other work related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in High Performance Computing, Computer Science , Computer Engineering, or related fields
At least 10+ years of related experience required and 5+ years of management experience preferred
Deep knowledge and experience in High Performance Computing software/solutions
Strong theoretical computer background
Strong algorithmic background and multithreading, processing, and MPI
Experience with cloud architectures (e.g., Hadoop, Accumulo) is a plus
Experience with developing algorithm/software relating to biological data is a plus
Experience with funding applications and submitting scientific publications is a plus
Experience working in a team environment with influence over cross-functional teams Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively
Energetic and motivated self-starter with an ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Other Requirements
Fluent communication skills in English and Mandarin required
Travel at 50%+ between China and U.S
