Job Description

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) is a world-class academic hospital, educational institution, and basic and clinical research center situated in Los Angeles, California. CSMC is seeking a Director of the Genomics Core Facility, which provides a broad range of genomics services to the research community.  The Core Director maintains a state-of-the art service facility, but also works with investigators to develop new genomics protocols and to support grant applications and publications.  The Core Director will interface with a growing bioinformatics research community on campus and the Cedars-Sinai Precision Health Initiative. The Core Director is eligible for a faculty level appointment in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, at a level commensurate with experience.  The Director will be expected to work closely with the Center for Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics, particularly in relation to technology and pipeline development, and will interface with the clinical Molecular Pathology Laboratory to aid in translation of genomic discoveries.

The Burns and Allen Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking a Director of the Genomics Core Facility.  The Director is responsible for operational oversight of a range of genomic assays, including but not limited to next-generation sequencing technologies (including single cell and microbiome), high-throughput qPCR, digital PCR, and quality control assays.  In addition, the Director will be involved in Research & Development and implementation of new technologies to maintain competitiveness of the Cedars research community.

The Genomics Core Director is responsible for collaborative interactions with researchers and vendors to provide consistent delivery of high quality, timely, and cost effective services. In this role, the Director will be responsible for the management of operational and capital resources within budget targets. The Director will also be responsible for staff oversight and development, and will actively engage and inform the CSMC community on developments in the field.  The Director is expected to continually evaluate competitive service providers and incorporate outsourcing as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• PhD or other advanced degree in relevant biomedical field (e.g. Molecular Biology, Genomics, Genetics, Biochemistry).

• Established genomics scientist with strong NGS and molecular biology experience.  Experience in single cell genomics, epigenomics, and/ormicrobiome is highly valued.

• Ability to interface with bioinformaticians within and outside the core.

• Demonstrated experience in evaluating and implementing new genomics technologies.

• Must have well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills and be confident in approaching, motivating, and communicating with colleagues at all levels of the organization, as well as ability to interface with external customers.

• Must be able to work with leadership and other staff to run the core in a fiscally responsible manner.

• Proven leadership skills based on previous supervisory experience.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proven ability to aid in grant and manuscript preparation.
