Job Description

This exciting role is focused on the development and implementation of EMEA external innovation strategies, identifying and evaluating emerging, enabling and transformational diagnostic platform technologies and facilitate its accelerated development and implementation to help drive precision medicine and position J&J’s as the world leader in the healthcare industry.

You will apply the highest scientific and diagnostic technical expertise as well as leadership skills, working closely with Innovation Center colleagues and across all Therapeutic Areas and all sectors to identify the best opportunities for value-generating collaborations and for diagnostic technology investment.

You will cultivate a strong scientific reputation and a network of experts in the global innovation community and solidify Johnson & Johnson as the partner of choice in a highly competitive landscape of external collaborations and partnerships. You will establish effective and collaborative network across all areas of Johnson & Johnson R&D and build credibility and leadership position for Diagnostic Excellence innovation.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Assume EMEA Diagnostic Excellence Innovation leadership role in scouting, identifying and evaluating emerging, enabling, transformational diagnostic technologies and/or biomarkers that have strategic fits with Johnson & Johnson’s focused areas across all Therapeutic Areas and Centres of Excellence and business sectors.
  • Assume a leadership role in proposing opportunities for collaborations and/or investment, and in technical due diligence and/or landscape analysis in support of the proposed opportunities.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to engage with the European innovation ecosystem of research institutions and investors. Provide scientific and technical inputs and/or mentorship as needed to researchers and start-ups to help advance Janssen’s strategy of fostering diagnostics innovation
  • Serve as the Janssen Diagnostics Ambassador, present in major European conferences to help promote Janssen Diagnostic’s vision and leadership presence and foster Diagnostic Excellence innovation
Requirements

You will have a demonstrated track record of success leading diagnostics research and development, and ideally have direct experience in the entire life cycle of In Vitro Diagnostics product development from research, feasibility to successful regulatory filings and commercialization. 

The ability for outside of box thinking and risk-taking with a clear vision of Diagnosic Excellence innovation, coupled with the ability to develop and implement effective tools for risk management to mitigate potential regulatory and commercialization challenges are essential.

Ability to develop deep insights into the emerging trends and unmet needs, and translate the insights into viable opportunities and/or solutions are essential.

You need to have a working knowledge of biomarkers, T/B cell immune repertoires, companion diagnostics, complementary diagnostics, and pharmaceutical drug development. Extensive technical expertise in NGS and other molecular Diagnostics technologies as well as protein-based Diagnostics technologies are essential. In-depth technical expertise in (remote) sensing technologies, label-free Diagnostics technologies, imaging technologies, and digital technologies are highly desirable. Direct experiences in working across different disease areas (oncology, CVM, neuroscience, ID and Immunology) and/or sectors (e.g., medical device, consumer and digital health, etc.) on enabling Dx solutions and/or Dx platform technologies are highly desirable.  Scientific knowledge and working experience in microbiome field is a plus.

Prior experience in leading technical assessment and due diligence and facilitating collaborations with external partners and navigating large, matrixed environments is a must. Real-life experience in networking with the research institutes and investor community in the biotech world, especially for Dx areas, is highly desirable.

Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills, ability to articulate, influence, and negotiate are essential.

Excellent   analytical   and   organizational   skills   to   effectively prioritize and manage   multiple   projects   and relationships at all stages of development are essential.

Effective leadership with demonstrated track record of collaborating and influencing across all levels and all sectors in the J&J organization is critical.
