Asuragen is looking for a talented software developer with scientific data analysis experience to develop cutting-edge customer solutions for bioinformatics analysis. We are a fast-growing molecular diagnostics company using genomics to drive better patient management through best-in-class clinical testing solutions. The Company enlists a breadth of technologies and talent to discover, develop and commercialize diagnostic products and services with efficiency and flexibility for internal projects and our bio/pharma partners.

As a Developer/Analyst, you’ll be responsible for helping design and develop a range of applications, from bioinformatics tools used internally at Asuragen to customer-facing software solutions which support our assays. This is a fast-paced environment with opportunities to learn and advance skills in a variety of domains, including software testing, UI and back-end development, bioinformatics and statistical analysis, scientific computing, and dev-ops.

The Bioinformatics software team plays a critical role in software at Asuragen. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong ability to work independently, tackle difficult problems, implement efficient algorithms, and learn new technologies quickly.

Key Requirements and Duties: The Developer/Analyst II, Bioinformatics will support the software development needs of the Discovery, Diagnostic and Services divisions within Asuragen.


Key Skills:

  • Skilled Python developer. Well-versed in the Linux command-line and aspects of software development and distribution in the Linux environment.
  • > 6 months experience with git, including rebase-based workflows
  • Adherent to best practices in software design and test-driven development, capable of adapting readily to shifting user requirements, and comfortable with development in a team setting. Experienced with the git source control system.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Communication skills will apply to documenting software, assisting with technical reports and preparing software design, architecture, and performance summary presentations.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of Python development experience.
  • Experience with quantitative/scientific computing


Preferable Skills and Attributes:

  • Exposure to concepts of molecular biology
  • Experienced in processing bioinformatics file formats: fasta, fastq, sam, bam, vcf, bed, etc.
  • Experienced in developing software in a regulated environment
  • Development experience with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with dev-ops tools (Vagrant, Packer, Docker, Puppet, Jenkins)
  • Experience with Flask, SQLAlchemy, React, and Redux
  • Experience developing for AWS including use of the CLI and boto toolkit.
  • Experience writing C/Cython Python extensions for performance-sensitive applications
