Job Description

Alzheimer’s disease is a complex disease affecting millions of people in the US and worldwide, with no disease modifying therapeutic.  Vivid Genomics is a startup focused on using genomics to understand and define heterogeneity in Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias, with the ultimate goal of changing the way Alzheimer’s disease patients are stratified for clinical trials and drug development.


We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, process-driven, and highly motivated Genomic Data Scientist to work as part of the Vivid Genomics team, in a full-time position to work on cutting edge machine learning problems with large genomics datasets.

The successful candidate will be comfortable with developing cloud-friendly pipelines, integrating and analyzing multiple datasets for genetic association studies, and statistical analysis of variation and its effect in Alzheimer’s disease and related phenotypes. As part of this project you will have the opportunity to work with academic and private collaborators. You will be expected to travel for meetings and conferences where required.

  • A PhD in statistical genetics, mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related area
  • 0-3 years industry experience
  • Experience working with human GWAS data
  • Expertise in coding languages such as R and/or Python
  • Relevant experience and skills in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, or machine learning
  • Bioinformatic experience building and running genetic pipelines
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Organized, persistent, and high attention to detail
  • Willing to act as an individual contributor


Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Proficient in next-generation sequencing data analysis and variant analysis
  • Experience dealing with real-world data problems such as versioning, ensuring reproducibility and traceability (for example GitHub)
  • Experience and familiarity with neurodegenerative disease phenotypes such as Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Experience documenting methods and approaches for IP and scientific communication/publication
  • Prior experience in corporate or startup environment, in genomics, biotech, or pharma company

The ability to work within a team and with external collaborators is critical to this position, and excellent communication skills and an ability to work to tight deadlines are essential. A qualified candidate must be able to communicate technical documents and take part in the daily scrum with software developers and scientists, as well as provide user-orientated communication with internal users of the systems.
