Computational Cancer Biologist (Human Oncology)
Berkeley Lights, Inc. is seeking a highly independent Computational Biologist with experience in human oncology. You'll join a R&D team whose aim and impact is strategic technology development toward the cure for cancer.
As a key member of the R&D Life Sciences team, you'll apply your deep knowledge in cancer genomics and experience analyzing human cancer data to develop new and novel data analysis methodologies.
You'll work with next generation sequencing (NGS) on rapidly evolving technology platforms developed by Berkeley Lights, Inc.
This new role requires expertise in making sense of the biological data and creating new methods to analyze data generated on novel technology platforms. To thrive here, you'll need to be a creative and productive scientist who will take ownership for achieving results in biology and technology development programs.


Required skills & experience:
• Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Cancer Biology, Genomics or related field plus at least 2 years of relevant postdoc experience, or overall equivalent experience.
• Proven ability to analyze (i.e., make sense of), interpret and visualize complex/ large biological datasets.
• Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, or Perl); background in algorithms for sequence analysis and statistics.
• Extensive experience with NGS technologies (including Illumina), sequence analysis tools (e.g., Tuxedo suite, BWA, SAMtools, GATK); bioinformatics scripts.
• Hands-on experience with structural variant calling and/or RNA-Seq data.
• In depth understanding of current NGS technologies.
• Knowledge of various NGS data applications.
• Development of novel algorithms for NGS data, across a number of applications.
• Ability to effectively interface with interdisciplinary customers and biologists to understand applications and requirements.
• Proven ability in fast-paced technology development with demanding schedules and deliverables.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills plus collaboration skills to clearly articulate ideas and resolutions with interdisciplinary team members.
Preferred skills and experience:
• Familiarity with Immuno-Oncology (I-O).
• Single cell data analysis.
