Job Description

We currently have a great opportunity for a Computational Biologist who will be responsible for genomic data analysis. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a collaborative research environment and be able to provide evidence of relevant research expertise in the form of presentations, software, technical publications, and/or knowledge of applications.  

  • Design and implementation of analysis solutions for the purpose of diagnostic product development in the areas of Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing, oncology and genetics.
  • Perform statistical and bioinformatic analyses of experimental data produced by next generation sequencing instruments, microarray, digital/qPCR, and other genomic methods.
  • Conduct data mining over internally produced and publicly available data sets
  • Develop computational solutions to address biologically relevant questions
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for statistical, algorithmic and computational issues relevant to the analytical and clinical validation of NGS tests.
  • PhD or Master’s Degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or related field; Multidisciplinary experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience, preferably in a commercial biotechnology setting.
  • Proficient in biological sequence analysis and the analysis of next-generation sequencing data.
  • Detailed knowledge of algorithms underlying common NGS and statistical analysis tools.
  • Strong knowledge of statistics, algorithms and exploratory data analyses.
  • Human population genetics/genomics or statistical genetics desirable.
  • Proven skills with NGS variant calling methods, especially in the context of cancer and somatic mutation detection, are highly desired.
  • Proven track record of proficiency in data analysis and statistical learning.
  • Expert knowledge of R/S-PLUS and a scripting language such as Python or Perl.
  • Experience with SQL and database design highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
