Job Description

Position Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for the daily testing of patient samples in all areas of the clinical laboratory according to established policies and procedures including the operation of computerized and automated instrumentation, quality control and maintenance, quality assurance and test results distribution.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Daily testing of patient samples in all areas of the clinical laboratory according to established policies and procedures
  • Operation of computerized and automated instrumentation, quality control and maintenance, quality assurance and test results distribution
  • Picks up samples from accessioning and sorts samples into appropriate racks
  • Sorts samples and distributes them to the appropriate setup hood
  • Manages specimen library within established time frames
  • Prepares samples for processing for RNA Isolation or RT-PCR processing
  • Unpacks and stores reagents and supplies
  • Inventories and orders warehouse supply items
  • Decontaminates work areas as designated
  • Maintains work area in clean and organized condition
  • Follows all PPE requirements
  • Maintains designated laboratory equipment
  • Uses various laboratory computer systems for labeling, inquiry, crediting, and resulting as needed
  • Disposes of biohazardous and chemical waste
  • Discards specimens weekly

 

Requirements
  • You must possess a current and valid Clinical Laboratory Technologist Generalist License issued by the state of California
  • Bachelor's degree in life science field

About Our Organization

Opentrons is a biotechnology startup. We’ve been around for a few years and we make robots. More specifically, our most recent iteration is the OT-2, which is a liquid handling robot that automates pipetting. Our mission is to automate workflows for life scientists and help them complete their research or job more efficiently and effectively. 

Our Pandemic Response Lab in Manhattan was opened in late summer of 2020 in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This lab is a 24/7, high complexity lab. We process only COVID-19 samples at this time. We currently have labs located in Manhattan, New York - Rockville, Maryland and Pasadena, California. This role is located in the Pasadena location.
