Job Description



A full-time position is available for a genetic counselor with a background in genomics and diagnostic testing in the growing Tumor Genomics Program at Bio-Reference Laboratories.  The Tumor Genomics Program is a CAP/CLIA-certified diagnostics laboratory providing Next Generation Sequencing diagnostic testing to our clinicians.  We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience working in or with a diagnostic lab.  The position requires knowledge and skills related to interpreting and reporting data from high complexity genomic techniques including next generation sequencing and arrays.  The primary role will be to support the clinical testing service of the tumor profiling laboratory in working with the team of molecular pathologists, laboratory directors and genetic counselors.  This will include: reviewing patient medical history prior to testing, performing review of genomic data, helping maintain the active knowledgebase for variant interpretation and reporting, and providing follow-up to physicians surrounding test results.   • Board eligible or board certified through the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of

    Medical Genetics; Eligible for NJ licensure

  • Masters degree in Genetic counseling, Human Genetics or related fields. 

  • Experience in oncology (Tumor genomics) is a must

  • Familiarity with SNP arrays and next generation sequencing. (Direct experience with these technologies in

    a diagnostic setting a plus)

  • Must be comfortable using a variety of computational databases such as dbSNP, the UCSC genome browser,

    Etc, to aid in the interpretation of genomic variants

  • Previous experience working in a diagnostic laboratory desired, with experience reviewing pathology records and

    drafting clinical reports

  • Ability to work independently 

  • Ability to prioritize

  • Good communication and organizational skills
