AstraZeneca is seeking Chemical Toxicologists to work at senior levels in Cambridge, UK, M ö lndal, Sweden and Waltham, USA .

Our global Drug Safety and Metabolism department partners our Innovative Medicines units during early drug discovery by identifying and optimising new chemical series and other modalities, and selecting novel candidate drugs. Part of the Predictive Compound Safety team, you'll be push the boundaries of science to make a real difference to patient care, working in environment where you'll valued for your contribution, energized and rewarded for your ideas, and supported by ongoing learning and development opportunities.

Main duties and responsibilities

You'll develop and apply your knowledge of chemical toxicology to influence the design quality of drug discovery projects. The role will involve generating chemical toxicology hypothesis to support molecular toxicology problem solving, and driving the development and application of predictive models and tools for different phases of compound design and selection.

You'll be interacting with discovery safety scientists, project toxicologists and medicinal scientists, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing. As well as training and mentoring discovery safety scientists in chemical toxicology, you'll act as the interface between medicinal chemistry and DSM for strategic initiatives. We'll also expect you to keep fully abreast of scientific and technological changes, new discoveries and advances in your field.

Essential requirements

•PhD in organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry
•Track record of problem solving and delivery in medicinal chemistry projects
•Significant postdoctoral experience as a medicinal chemist or computational toxicologist in a pharmaceutical/biotech environment
•Interest and ability in solving safety-related problems on projects
•Strong influencing, stakeholder management and team-working skills.
Desirable requirements

•Experience of working at the interface with medicinal chemistry and toxicology to improve the quality of drug candidates
•Pre-clinical or clinical drug safety experience
•Experience of applying medicinal chemistry approaches to design and develop new molecules with decreased safety liability
Some knowledge of pharmacokinetics and computational techniques such as structure-based drug design, molecular dynamics, molecular docking, quantitative structure activity relationships, pharmacodynamics and chemoinformatics...cont.
