Fluidigm is looking for a motivated Chemical Biologist who will participate in the development and testing of new synthetic reagents and conjugates. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the successful candidate will be involved in cutting-edge research into chemical, biochemical and biological aspects of nucleic acids. In addition, they will be involved in related bio-engineering, working at the interface of synthetic, analytical chemistries and biology. We are looking for an independent scientist who is already actively engaged in a research program bridging chemistry and biology together. The ideal candidate will bring forth a strong background in the broad field of chemical biology or biochemistry.

You Will: 

Provide expertise in microscopy, RNA assay development and analytical instrumentation 
Illustrate a strong motivation for industrial research 
Initiate, direct and execute scientific research and develop strategies while performing complete hands-on development of polymer reagents in an organic/polymer chemistry research lab environment 
Perform experimental design, hands-on experimentation, analysis and presentation of research results.

Requirements: 

You Have: 

Proven ability to do polymer and/or organic chemistry synthesis and characterization 
Strong aptitude in record keeping and data presentation 
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills 
Ability to switch focus between tasks and eagerness to perform a variety of duties in a medium size business environment 
Ability to perform established protocols independently using good laboratory practices and to review data for accuracy and completeness 
Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: 
Education and Experience: 

PhD Degree in chemical biology, molecular biology or related scientific field and, preferably, at least 3 years of industrial experience 
Experience in polymer or organic chemistry is required 
Background in analytical chemistry is an asset 
Previous experience in micro-scale chemical synthesis is an asset 
Previous laboratory experience including the design, optimization and implementation of quantitative PCR assays is an asset
