Job Description

Synthego is looking for a mammalian cell culture scientist to assist in the maintenance of cell lines, CRISPR gene editing, and various molecular biology assays.


Location: Redwood City, CA (applicants local to the Bay Area only)




Under the guidance of a project manager

  • Maintain primary cell cultures and immortalized cell lines
  • Maintain research inventory, equipment, record-keeping and administrative tasks for cell line maintenance and related projects
  • Perform purchasing
  • Seed and transfect cells for a variety of cell culture experiments
  • Assist in developing assays for screening mammalian cell lines
  • Assist in the development and documentation of standard protocols
  • Acquire and analyze microscopy images
  • Assist in experiment design, project planning, and data compilation
  • Participate in company meetings and present data and project plans
  • Communicate regularly with team members regarding project progress




  • MS in biology, cell biology or related field with a minimum of 2 years of cell culture experience or BS with 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • Experience working with a variety of immortalized lines, specialized experience with mammalian iPS, ES, and primary cell lines is preferred
  • Excellent sterile technique
  • Experience with transfections and genetic engineering of mammalian cells preferred
  • Proficiency in molecular and cell biology techniques; assay optimization, development, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in fluorescence microscopy and immunostaining techniques. 
  • Experience with flow cytometry preferred
  • Comfort with new techniques and aiding new assay development 
  • Experience with managing lab inventory
  • Ability to troubleshoot experiments and think critically
  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to deliver cohesive presentations
  • Ability to work well within a team and thrive under fast-paced startup environment
