Job Description

The MacKeigan Lab within Van Andel Research Institute’s Center for Cancer and Cell Biology has a position available for one Research Associate. This individual will use molecular and cell biology approaches to investigate cancer and/or tumor syndromes. A preferred candidate will have a Master’s degree and knowledge in signaling pathway biology.


An ideal candidate would be:

  • A researcher with 3-5 years of experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques.

  • A team player who shares knowledge with lab members

  • A collaborator who is confident interacting with other laboratories and departments

  • An effective communicator who will contribute to a fun and positive work environment

  • Creative, motivated, collaborative, and optimistic, with a strong desire to impact human health


After the first year, a superior Research Associate would:

  • Be a recognized leader within the laboratory, leading informally and by example 

  • Produce high quality data and make original project contributions

  • Demonstrate hard work ethic and professionalism

  • Engage lab members for feedback, and voluntarily assist other team members and colleagues

  • Successfully manage an ambitious workload, while proactively planning future project directions
