Job Description

The successful candidate will join a large state-of-the art unit that provides structural biology and biophysics information to expedite drug discovery projects undertaken at the NIBR Cambridge campus.

The candidate's primary responsibilities will be the expression, purification and characterization of recombinant proteins suitable for x-ray crystallography, biophysics and biochemical assays. Specifically, the candidate should possess a wide range of protein biochemical skills and be comfortable producing highly purified proteins on a 10 to 100 mg scale. Familiarly in baculovirus, E.coli and mammalian cell culture techniques, plus a sound grasp of a variety of chromatography separation strategies will be essential.

The candidate will be expected to be able to participate in experimental design and to independently conduct experiments. In addition, they will be expected to participate in a project team setting and provide technical input to team decisions. Associate will be responsible for maintaining clear records of experimental work and have the ability to organize report and communicate their results.

Requirements:
B.S/M.S or equivalent in biochemistry or a related discipline with at least 3-5 years of research laboratory experience, ideally within the pharma / biotech industry. A strong background in protein expression and purification is essential. The candidate must possess good communication skills and be comfortable working in a matrix based team environment
