Job Description

Multiple positions are available at the University of Michigan Medical School in the areas of molecular genetics, computational genomics, and neurology to participate in a NIH-funded study of brain somatic genetic mosaicism in schizophrenia. This project will investigate the extent of multiple types of genetic variation (SNVs, retrotransposon, copy number variation) in different regions of control and schizophrenia postmortem brains and how such variants interact with genes and gene networks associated with this disease.  Putative causal mutations will then be followed up with engineered iPSC lines and mouse models for functional characterization.


Interested individuals must have or be close to obtaining a Ph.D. in a related field and have demonstrated a high level of research productivity through publication in top peer-reviewed journals. Candidates should have a strong background in at least one related field (bioinformatics, biostatistics, genetics, neuroscience), with specific qualifications dependent on the individual area of expertise. Individuals with experience analyzing retrotransposons, structural variation, and neuropsychiatric disorders are especially encouraged to apply. This project is part of a larger collaborative effort with the Lieber Institute of Brain Development and the Salk Institute, and interested candidates must have strong communication skills and a willingness to work closely with teams of scientists with diverse expertise.
