The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of IHRC, Inc. and will be assigned to the Respiratory Diseases Branch (RDB) within the Division of Bacterial Diseases (DBD), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC), 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA to provide statistical support services for the Epidemiologist Team of RDB.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Respiratory Diseases Branch (RDB) is seeking support for several critical activities related to the epidemiology of respiratory infections nationally. In 2010, a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine was licensed and recommended for all children under the age of 2, and for certain older children. In 2014, this same vaccine was recommended for all adults aged 65 years and older. Because the vaccine prevents pneumonia caused by certain strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, it is critical to determine whether the vaccine is reducing the burden of pneumonia hospitalizations among children and adults. The successful candidate will provide biostatistician support services to the Epidemiology Team within RDB.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Function 1: Identification and implementation of appropriate methods for the analysis of national and state-based hospital discharge. These data could include, for example, data collected as part of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project, as well as other similar datasets.
Function 2: Generation of regular reports regarding trends in hospitalizations for pneumonia and, possibly, other conditions. These reports will require written descriptions of the methods used, key findings, and high-quality graphical images.
Function 3: Design of new strategies for statistical evaluation of pneumococcal disease burden and evaluation of new laboratory tests to detect serotype-specific disease.
