Job Description

The Bioinformatics Scientist will be primarily responsible for maintaining and developing code to support Medical Genomics products and cannabis research 


  • Maintain and develop the existing bioinformatics pipeline for analyzing next-generation sequencing data
  • Create/maintain/tune relational database(s) to optimize analysis, storage and mining of cannabis genomic data
  • Create innovative, customer-facing graphical user interfaces (GUIs) to enable others to effectively search/display cannabis genomic data
  • Follow best coding practices: issue tracking, source code control, and document management
    • BS/MS/PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, or related field
    • 1+ year(s) programming experience in biotechnology
    • Experience analyzing next generation sequencing data
    • Experience with phylogenetic analysis and plant genetics is desirable
    • Demonstrated proficiency with a scripting language such as Ruby or Python
    • Experience in designing and implementing SQL (Oracle, MySQL) and noSQL (mongoDB) databases
    • Experience with multiple operating systems, including Linux
    • Experience with JavaScript, Django, NetSuite is a plus
    • Experience with software deployment in cloud highly desirable, especially Amazon AWS experience
    • Strong communicator with ability to maintain open communication with team members and managers
