The Department of Nutrigenomics at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany is recruiting a post-doctoral researcher to work in the field of Applied Bioinformatics and Microbial Genomics with a focus on Microbiota Research in the group of Prof. W. Florian Fricke.
The group's research interest is to study mechanisms involved in host-microbiota interactions with relevance for human health, using both experimental laboratory and (meta-)genomic sequencing-based bioinformatic approaches. The long-term goal of this research is to identify functionally relevant microbiota parameters with potential future application as diagnostic biomarkers or therapeutic targets.
The objective of the present project is to expand and extend preliminary work on strain-level metagenomic sequence analysis in the context of fecal microbiota transplantation. As part of this project, the successful applicant will focus on the development of new bioinformatic methods, as well as their application for current microbiota research projects. Aside from the strong bioinformatic focus of the position, the candidate will also have the possibility to get involved with laboratory project components, if interested.
