Job Description

 

Genomic Health is seeking a highly talented and motivated Bioinformatic Engineer with software engineering skills to develop products that help cancer patients make better informed treatment decisions. As a key member of the R&D team this individual will collaborate with Platform Technologies, Exploratory Bioinformatics, Product Sciences, Biostatistics, Data Management, and IT to implement sequence analysis solutions that enable Genomic Health to scale its technology platforms and R&D efforts. A strong candidate will have a track record of successfully implementing computationally efficient data analysis methods using next generation sequencing in a multidisciplinary team environment.

 

Requirements

 

  • Collaborate with scientists and other engineering teams to implement scalable bioinformatic pipelines for internal research studies and commercial products.
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain robust bioinformatic data analysis pipelines and software systems.
  • Identify computational bottlenecks and implement code to improve performance and computational efficiency.
  • Produce commercial grade software adhering to internal policies and standards for software development.
  • Evaluate and integrate open source and commercial utilities into a functional data processing pipeline.
  • Represent the bioinformatics function in project teams. Present at internal meetings.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • BS/MS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining DNA/RNA next generation sequence analysis methods.
  • Demonstrated excellent coding skills in Python, PERL, C/C++, and/or Java in a distributed Linux/Unix/Cloud environment.
  • Full life cycle software development experience implementing large software systems for critical production applications.
  • Knowledge and practical experience using bioinformatic applications, such as aligners, genome assemblers, visualization tools, and variant callers on data from 2nd or 3rd generation sequencing technologies.
  • A strong communicator who effectively adjusts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Able to prioritize and deliver results with a high emphasis on quality, technical rigor, and attention to detail.
  • Able to integrate feedback in a professional manner and thrives in multidisciplinary teams with members with highly diverse backgrounds.

 

DESIRED

  • Experience developing software for a regulated product.
  • Familiarity with statistical packages (R, MATLAB).
  • Design and management of SQL (SQL Server, MySQL) and noSQL (mongoDB) databases. Knowledge of web service technologies.
  • Prior R&D exposure in a clinical diagnostics, pharma, or genome sequencing center setting.
