Job Description

The New York Genome Center is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Computational Biology group. As a Bioinformatics Analyst, you will be responsible for running a bacterial genome pipeline for an ongoing collaborative research project that mines bacterial genomes for natural products. You will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting the pipeline results as the pipeline is developed. You will be involved in pipeline changes, and your analyses will contribute directly to those changes. Publication of any scientific findings is strongly encouraged. Job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Deriving, analyzing and interpreting in silico segments of bacterial genomes;
  • Analyze and interpret current workflow for deriving bacterial segments;
  • Develop and apply novel approaches for deriving bacterial segments;
  • Communicating results to coworkers and external collaborators.
Requirements
  • MS or BS with 2+ years work/research experience in bioinformatics, computer science, biology, biochemistry or similar;
  • Knowledge and experience handling bacterial taxonomies;
  • Experience with bacterial genomics;
  • Proficiency in R/Matlab and/or other scripting languages such as Python/Perl;
  • Experience working in Linux and running tasks in a cluster environment;
  • Experience with large datasets;
  • Experience working with biological data;
  • Working knowledge of statistics and/or machine learning.
