EMBL-EBI is looking for a motivated bioinformatician to increase the visibility and impact of the HipSci project by advertising its datasets through the EpiRR Epigenome Reference Registry. The HipSci Project is running an array of assays on hundreds of iPS cell lines from healthy volunteers and individuals with genetic diseases. At the same time, the EpiRR Epigenome Reference Registry contains references to a large collection of publicly available epigenomic datasets produced by a collection of consortia (ENCODE, Epigenomics Roadmap, BLUEPRINT, etc), grouped together under the banner of the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC).
EpiRR is therefore becoming a central core resource for epigenomic research worldwide, however it would be greatly improved by storing metadata. This would allow users to quickly find datasets relevant to their research. You will be responsible for:
- Augmenting the functionality of the EpiRR to store metadata.
- Developing validators to ensure the consistency of the submissions.
- Collecting metadata from submitters.
- Entering HipSci metadata into EpiRR.
- Communicating with submitters on monthly phone calls.
You will be working within the Ensembl Regulation team (led by Myrto Kostadima), which is a component of the Genome Analysis team (led by Daniel Zerbino). EMBL-EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and is located on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK. EMBL-EBI is Europe's leading provider of information services to biological researchers in academia and industry
