Job Description

This post involves research on multi-omic data sets. Development of novel algorithms and exploitation of other software to process and analyse data generated at the Glasgow Polyomics facility at The University of Glasgow, in the areas of genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics/metabolomics. The job will extend to integration of omics datasets by using and extending existing and newly developed bioinformatics software. 

The post holder will be interacting in a collaborative and service capacity with users across the College as well as external academic and commercial partners to maximise the output of their datasets through novel analytical methods. Dissemination of that knowledge to staff and students through mentoring and training. The job will also provide opportunities for the appointed person to develop their own research project.


The successful candidate will have a minimum of 1-2 years relevant experience in relevant subject area, experience in omics data analysis or equivalent, gained from previous experience across multiple projects. Additionally they will have demonstrable skills in the development of software for omics related applications using languages such as Perl, Python, R and Java.

About Our Organization

Glasgow Polyomics is a dynamic research facility at the University of Glasgow that is equipped for the collection, analysis and integration of high-throughput biological (‘omics’) datasets. The facility uses state-of-the-art, next-generation sequencing platforms (Life Technologies and Illumina), a fleet of high-end mass spectrometers (Thermo Fisher Orbitraps), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology to measure the genome, transcriptome, metagenome, proteome, and metabolome from any biological system. The analysis team at Glasgow Polyomics also provides a range of experience in network biology, bioinformatics and software development, in particular for the integrated analysis of multi-level 'polyomic' datasets.

 The facility works with users across the biomedical sciences and industry to generate and/or analyse data and, where required, to develop tailored methods and software products to meet the demands of a project.
