Job Description

Lucigen seeks an action-oriented and highly detailed associate scientist to join its growing production team. This position will provide technical expertise in one or more areas of focus for Lucigen, such as microbiology or molecular biology, with a specific focus on production of the company’s vectors line. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to operations teams performing manufacturing, quality control, distribution, materials management, and maintenance activities in a manner consistent with Lucigen’s ISO 13485 quality systems; independently perform assigned duties in these areas
  • Process, record, and analyze data following approved protocols and using good documentation practices
  • Effectively communicate results to the Lucigen team
  • Manage assigned functions and product families to provide product to meet the production plan and customer requirements
  • Develop and conduct studies and follow protocols supporting process improvements, investigations, and corrective/preventative actions
  • Deliver high-quality documentation consistent with Lucigen’s quality systems
Requirements

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in relevant life sciences field (molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, etc.) with 0-3 years’ industry experience (pharma, biotech, or medical device), or an associate degree in relevant life sciences field with 3-5 years’ industry experience. Additional requirements include:

  • Proficiency or experience in the following areas:
    • Isolating DNA and RNA (large scale nucleic acid purification a plus)
    • Small- or large-scale DNA purification and manufacture:
      • DNA quantification by agarose gel or qubit
      • DNA digests with restriction enzymes
      • Agarose gel DNA extractions
      • Plasmid preps from bacterial culture
      • Sequencing setup and interpretation of results
      • Ligation and transformation
  • Adept at standard molecular biology procedures, especially nucleic acid amplifications
  • Proven track record working as part of a cross-functional team
  • Ability to become adept at the development and implementation of new technologies and technical processes that improve the quality, efficiency, and/or productivity of products and/or laboratory services
  • Effective communication skills with technical staff, peers, and customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Aptitude to work in a complex and rapidly growing company
  • Results-oriented, ensuring targets are met on time and on budget
  • Must demonstrate good professional judgement and reliability
  • Must be highly accurate and detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • First-hand experience with molecular biology techniques
