Job Description

I. Overview
The laboratory groups at Catalent RTP are responsible for the support of pharmaceutical product development in a range of dosage forms both directly with customers and in collaboration with other Catalent facilities. This Associate Scientist position will be supporting the Bioassay group within the Biopharmaceutical Support Services Department.
II. Department Summary
As a member of the bioassay team, you will utilize your expertise to support the implementation of both cell-based and non-cell based bioassay techniques in support of the pharmaceutical industry. Your efforts will focus on delivering high-quality scientific contributions by developing and validating complex biological assays. As a scientist and leader in our organization, you will be a key component of the engine that powers our operation, applying expertise in the biological sciences . 
A high level of expertise in ELISAs and cell-based bioassays is required. Experience with working in a highly GMP-regulated environment is preferred. Additional experience with other immunoassay and molecular biology techniques, such as qPCR, SDS-PAGE and Western Blots is also preferred . 
III. Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs work that is varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character, but usually involves limited responsibility. Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required. Follows established protocols and work plans. May be assisted by laboratory technicians / assistants.
IV. Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities

•Perform activities of moderate complexity involving others. 50% 
•Assist in the implementation of new technologies or approaches. 10% 
•Occasional contact with customer technical personnel to effectively coordinate laboratory studies. 10% 
•Writes summary reports with supervisory guidance. Can effectively coach or instruct technicians or lab associates on basic procedures. 5% 
•Leads team activities as needed. Strives to involve all team members and encourages mutual support. 5% 
•Identify personal opportunities for development consistent with business needs. 5% 
•Develop solutions for basic technical problems. 5% 
•Take the initiative to propose deviations from established procedures and methods based upon sound judgment. 5% 
•All other duties as assigned. 5%


IV. Job Requirements
Education and Experience:

•Master's degree and 0 years related experience; Bachelor's degree and >1 years related experience; or Associate's degree and >3 years related experience or equivalent education, experience, and training 
• Degree in a biological field is preferred

• Experience with ligand binding assays, such as an ELISA is required

• Experience with cell based bioassays is required

• PCR experience is preferred

• SDS-PAGE and western blot experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•Experience with Microsoft Office is required 
•Experience with SoftMax Pro, GraphPad Prism and/or similar statistical data analysis software is preferredProficient at multi-tasking 
•Understands personal and team's role in job performance metrics 
•Independent on a weekly basis

•Complies with Health, Safety & Environmental responsibilities

Physical Requirements:

•On an average day this position requires the ability to stand up to five hours; walk up to three hours; sit up to eight hours; use hands to finger, handle or feel up to eight hours; reach with hands and arms up to 6 hours; climb or balance up to one hour; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl up to one hour; talk or hear up to eight hours; taste or smell up to eight hours; lift up to 25 pounds frequently; and have the ability to clearly see and focus on objects and color at close and far distances with good depth perception 
•Must have the ability to wear a respirator for a period of time 
Working Conditions and Environment:

•Individual's primary workstation is located in the laboratory or manufacturing floor where the noise level is low to moderate
