Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s Watson School of Biological Sciences (WSBS) seeks an Associate Dean to oversee its graduate program operations. WSBS was founded at the world-renowned CSHL 17 years ago to implement a prestigious and innovative PhD program in molecular and cellular biology, neuroscience, genetics, genomics and quantitative biology. Now in its second decade, the success of the program has been widely celebrated and it has served as a model for other programs around the country.
The Associate Dean will report directly to the Dean and will serve as the senior administrative officer for the graduate school. In this role, he/she will have overall responsibility for day-to-day operations, direction and coordination of the programs of the school. In addition to the graduate program, these include postdoctoral and summer undergraduate training programs. Job responsibilities will also include managing grant/Foundation applications and the WSBS nationally recognized accreditation. Furthermore, the Associate Dean will work closely with students, helping with fellowship applications and career development opportunities.
The Graduate program is constantly evolving, and the Associate Dean will work closely with WSBS faculty in developing the curriculum, implementing initiatives, and strengthening the WSBS mission of training future scientific leaders. A further role concerns maintaining alumni relations and promoting the accomplishments of students and alumni to the wider scientific community. If suitably qualified, the successful candidate may also be involved in teaching and course development.
