Job Description

The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Division of Genomic Medicine, are seeking an outstanding candidate with expertise in Bioinformatics and Cancer Genomics for a full-time faculty member with clinical service, research (clinical and translational), and teaching responsibilities at the Assistant Professor level serving as the Assistant Director of Bioinformatics at the Center for Personalized Medicine (CPM) at CHLA. The Assistant Director, Bioinformatics, will join the CPM clinical and scientific team and will be leading the development of data infrastructure and software tools for analyzing cancer genomics data in support of both clinical and research needs of CPM. 

 

 

Requirements

The successful candidate must hold a PhD or MD/PhD degree with training and demonstrated accomplishment in Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, Genetics, Genomics, or related field. The successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge of cancer genomics and be familiar with the cutting-edge methodologies and technologies applied for understanding the complexity of cancer genetics. Experience in developing and applying algorithms and software tools for cancer whole-genome, whole-exome, panel sequencing, genotyping, or RNA-Seq data for either clinical or research purposes is strongly desired. Computational expertise is desired in the following areas: designing and developing web- and cloud-based bioinformatics next generation sequencing data analysis solutions, programming skills (Java, R, Perl, Python, etc.), knowledge of database technologies (SQL Server, Oracle, mongoDB), and big data analytics. The successful candidate will participate in multi-disciplinary clinical and research teams working in the fields of clinical and cancer genomics at CHLA and KSOM.  Salary and appointment rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and training.
