At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch's pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer with minimal side effects. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation's first and largest cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women's Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network.

The Clinical Research Division (CRD) of Fred Hutch in Seattle, WA invites applications for a faculty member at the level of Assistant or Associate Member (corresponding to Assistant or Associate Professor level at a university) to conduct collaborative statistical research associated with CRD activities and the affiliated Cancer Consortium with the University of Washington.

This position is within a group consisting of four other biostatistics faculty members, numerous master's-level statisticians who fulfill similar roles within the CRD, and several programmers who provide support to all studies within the Division. A joint appointment is possible with the Division of Public Health Sciences at the FHCRC, where many other biostatistics faculty members reside, as is an affiliate appointment at the Assistant Professor level in a relevant department at the University of Washington, depending on mutual interest and involvement with university activities.

Successful candidates are expected to direct collaborative statistical research with CRD faculty. Key areas of collaborative research include designing and analyzing data from observational studies and clinical trials (generally Phase I and Phase II studies) along with attendant duties such as data safety and monitoring of clinical trials. Particular topics of clinical research include (but are not limited to) studies of treatment and biology of Hematopoietic Cell Transplant, infectious disease in the immunocompromised host, solid tumor research, survivorship after cancer, therapeutic development including immunotherapies, and genetic/genomic research studies which may involve the analysis of "big data".

Independent research in statistical methodology is strongly encouraged.
Applicants should have Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in a quantitative area such as statistics or biostatistics.
