GeneDx is rapidly growing CLIA-Certified diagnostic genetics laboratory. We provide cutting edge technologies for genetic molecular diagnostics and offer vital, new-platform products in the critical area of molecular diagnostics. We specialize in genetic testing for rare hereditary disorders, but also test for common disorders. Our primary mission is to make clinical testing available to people with rare genetic conditions and their families. Because of our tremendous growth, we are in search for an Assistant Director to oversee our Microarray team.
The Assistant Director reports directly to the Associate Director, Microarray, and will oversee a team of over 40 individuals, including operations managers, supervisors, and technicians. The Assistant Director will manage personnel in terms of performance, allocation of duties, and conflict resolution. Responsibilities will include management of daily operations, data analysis and interpretation, and writing and signing of clinical result reports with other certified genetic counselors and medical geneticists. The Assistant Director will be responsible for ensuring quality and efficiency of clinical microarray services, meeting the case turn-around times, proper documentation, and execution of an active and continuous quality control program in collaboration with the Quality Management personnel. Participation in education, marketing, and other position-related duties is required as necessary.
Responsibilities for Assistant Director:

• Works closely with Associate Director, Microarray, to design new arrays, to perform R&D on new arrays or other tests, and complete validations of all tests in the department. Also participates in investigating improvements to workflow through automation and/or personnel training.
• Assumes personal responsibility for understanding and performing routine administrative work including but not limited to analysis of data from microarrays, MLPA/qPCR, FISH, trinucleotide repeats, fragment analysis, interpreting variants, manage personnel issues and direct resolution of workflow issues.
• Works closely with the Associate Director, Microarray, and genetic counselors to ensure that communications from other departments at GeneDx are received by the Microarray department in a thorough and timely fashion and that personnel are appropriately updated.

Requirements

Education and Skills:

• PhD in medical technology, chemistry, biology, or related life science, or MD or DO.
• Board eligible or board certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics.
• Three years directly relevant experience in Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics with eligibility for a New York State Certificate of Qualification.
