Position description
The Department of Pathology (http://pathology.ucsd.edu) at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine UCSD is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking Assistant or Associate Project Scientists in the field of Neurodegenerative Research.
UCSD Health Sciences is a $1 billion-plus organization encompassing 16 academic departments (14 clinical, 2 basic sciences), 2 pre-academic/hospital departments, 2 professional schools (School of Medicine and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences), 2 hospitals, and various other programs and units all dedicated to fulfilling the Health Sciences missions.
The Department of Pathology plays a key role in the University's three missions. It aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research, and education. The Department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized for their expertise. The Department's research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UC San Diego.
The incumbents will be responsible for performing preclinical studies to test CRISPR-based therapeutics for Alzheimer's and/or Parkinson's disease and participate in projects related to applying similar gene-editing-based therapies and/or the pathobiology of Parkinson's disease. In addition, the successful candidates will play a leadership role in managing the projects, and also be involved in analyzing the data, teaching, preparing presentations and reports, and summarizing results from experiments for presentations.
Appointment at the Assistant or Associate Project Scientist level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD in cell/molecular biology or a neuroscience-related field.
Preferred qualifications
Candidates with experience in working with CRISPR-Cas in an in-vivo setting are preferred. Candidates with the ability to work collaboratively in a team are also preferred.
